Day 11 - Tuesday, 8/8/67
Page 4 - Yellowstone National Park to Laramie, Wyoming

Our first view of the Grand Tetons

Coming from the flatness of Long Island, the Grand Tetons were certainly an impressive set of mountains. I remember looking across the marshy land in the foreground of this picture and trying to figure out how far away the mountains were, and how high up the snow was. I can see why they are so attractive to mountain climbers.

An impressive amount of snow for August

Looks like Switzerland, doesn't it? From this distance it looks like the mountains are solid rock, without any vegetation at all.

View across the lake

I really enjoyed this view. The beauty of the mountains reflected in the lake made for a very serene setting. I can only wonder how cold that lake was!

Closer view

Another view from the bus that shows how rocky and craggy the mountains are.

That's it for the Grand Tetons. Ready for the Black River and the Painted Desert? Click here to continue.
