This is the neckerchief from our trip, which was officially known as Expedition 810B. That code came from our being the second group scheduled to arrive at Philmont on August 10, 1967.

The neckerchief shows our route across the United States. We were the last group from Nassau County Council to travel to Philmont by bus, as the next year began the current practice of flying there. I'm glad that we went by bus, for even though it was a slow and sometime boring trip, we all had a great time. We also saw a lot more than you can see racing through the sky in a pressurized aluminum tube.

Our route out was across the northern part of the country, with a wonderful stop in Idaho for the World Scout Jamboree. The trip back was through the central section of the U.S. This photo journal shows some of the many places we visited along the way.

A word, by the way, on the photos themselves. They were taken on a fairly inexpensive camera by a fairly inexperienced cameraman, namely me. They have also moved around the country with me over the years and thus have started to show the ravages of time and wear in some cases. Still, even with their all too apparent flaws, they manage to transport me back to 1967. Some photos are copies of pictures taken by others on the trip, primarily our leader, Howard Snedeker. They are copies of his original slides and thus are sometimes improperly exposed. Still, they add an extra perspective to the trip.

The photos have been scanned in a larger size than I normally use on web pages, as the starting point for this project was to provide my brother with a photo album. Sorry for the long load times for anyone with a slow modem. If anyone from our trip ever discovers these pages please let me know, and I'll send you a copy on a CD-ROM.
